Dear Louis Riel School Division community, 

At the Dec. 17 Board meeting, a motion was passed to move the Louis Riel School Division social media account X to Bluesky Social, effective immediately.

The Louis Riel School Division (LRSD) is committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all students, staff, and community members. Given the evolving social media landscape, the LRSD, and all its associated accounts, are immediately stepping away from using X and transitioning to . 

Recent changes to X’s platform have led to concerns regarding the inclusivity and integrity of online interactions, the rise of misinformation, and toxic rhetoric diminishing public trust. Bluesky’s current focus on decentralization, transparency, and fostering a safer online environment aligns more closely with LRSD's values. In addition, X’s updated Terms of Service grant the platform broader rights to collect, store, and share user data, including biometric information and location data, raising serious privacy concerns, particularly for a public institution like LRSD that serves families, students, and staff who may not have consented to such extensive data collection.
